Net Law LLC, an estate planning law firm, has announced a webinar that focuses on helping people understand the need for them to have a trust and a will. The firm points out that having a trust and a will are not just for the rich. The webinar is ready for those who want to enroll now.
"More than 60 percent of all adults living in the United States do not have a will," says Financial Literacy Advocate Walter Anderson. "In addition, up to 90 percent don't even have a comprehensive and up to date estate plan, which means that important decisions regarding the distribution of your assets, who will make healthcare decisions, and who will act as guardian of minor children, are up in the air once they have passed away."
Anderson says that knowing how to plan for the future is essential and that there are vital decisions that every adult must make prior to their last days. He states that those with minor children should know and have put in writing who will care for those children upon the parents' unfortunate demise. Other topics like health care decisions for those who cannot decide for themselves and burial planning should also be done in the earliest possible stages of one's life.
"Here's the thing," says Anderson. "If you aren't rich, then someone is going to have to pay for your burial. Someone is going to have to bear the financial burden of your long term medical expenses, particularly if you do not have adequate health care coverage. These are all things that you have to consider."
Anderson says that not making these decisions will ultimately cause hardship on loved ones that are left behind. In addition, he states that without a will, assets could be tied up in court for years if certain descendants decide that they are not happy with the way that things are distributed. He states that all of this can be avoided by having a will.
